Terms of Service
Last updated: June 4, 2026
Welcome to BookLane. By creating an account or using any part of the site, you agree to these Terms of Service. Please read them carefully. If you do not agree, you should not use BookLane.
1. Who can use BookLane
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under the age of majority in your country, you confirm that a parent or legal guardian has agreed to these Terms on your behalf. Some features may require you to be 18 or older.
2. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for any activity that takes place on your account. Use an accurate email address so we can reach you for password resets and important notices. You may close your account at any time from your settings page.
Your username and display name are set at registration and are permanent. Choose them carefully, as they identify you to your followers and readers across the platform. Complete username changes are not permitted. However, if your username contains a clear typographical error (e.g. a missing or swapped letter), you may contact us and we will review your request at our discretion. This exception does not apply to requests that are a change in identity rather than a correction.
3. Your content
You retain full ownership of the original stories, chapters, cover images, and comments you post on BookLane. By posting content, you grant BookLane a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display, distribute, and promote that content on the platform and in BookLane-controlled marketing channels. This license ends when you delete the content, except where we are legally required to keep a copy.
You confirm that you own the rights to anything you post, or that you have permission to share it. Do not upload work that belongs to someone else.
4. Accepted use
The following are not allowed on BookLane:
- Plagiarism or reposting another author's work without permission.
- Sexual content involving anyone under 18.
- Content that promotes violence against, or hatred toward, a person or group based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, disability, or similar protected attributes.
- Harassment, threats, doxxing, or persistent targeting of another user.
- Spam, deceptive content, scraping the site at scale, or attempting to disrupt the service.
- Use of BookLane to distribute malware, phishing links, or illegal material.
We may remove content or suspend accounts that violate these rules, with or without prior notice.
5. Mature content (R-18)
BookLane permits stories tagged R-18 that contain sexually explicit or graphically violent content written for adult audiences, subject to the following conditions:
- You must be at least 18 years old to publish or read R-18 content.
- All characters depicted in sexual or romantic situations must be explicitly written as adults (18 or older). Ambiguous ages are treated as under 18 and are not permitted in such contexts.
- R-18 content must be correctly tagged at the story level before publishing. Deliberately mislabelling adult content to avoid the tag is a violation of these Terms.
- R-18 content must not involve non-consensual scenarios presented approvingly, real persons, or content that violates any applicable law.
We reserve the right to remove, re-tag, or restrict access to any R-18 content at our discretion. Repeated violations may result in permanent account suspension.
To protect younger users and comply with advertising partner requirements, third-party advertisements are not displayed on pages containing R-18 content.
6. Tips and author support
BookLane allows authors to optionally share their payment details (such as GCash, BPI, or Maya account information) so that readers can send tips directly to them. This feature works as follows:
- BookLane does not process, hold, or facilitate any payment. All transfers are made directly between the reader and the author through external services.
- BookLane is not a party to any tip transaction and accepts no responsibility for failed transfers, disputes, fraud, or any loss arising from a tip.
- Authors are solely responsible for the accuracy of the payment details they provide. BookLane is not liable for tips sent to incorrect accounts.
- Tips are entirely voluntary. Readers are under no obligation to tip, and authors are under no obligation to confirm or acknowledge any tip.
- BookLane reserves the right to disable the tipping feature for any account found to be using it deceptively or in violation of these Terms.
7. Reporting issues
If you believe a story or comment violates these Terms, including copyright infringement, please contact us at hello@booklane.art with a description and a link to the content. For copyright complaints, include enough information for us to identify the work and confirm you are the rights holder or authorised to act on their behalf.
8. Advertising
BookLane may display third-party advertisements to help cover the cost of running the platform. These ads are served by partners such as Google AdSense and may use cookies and similar technologies as described in our Privacy Policy.
9. Disclaimers
BookLane is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that the service will always be available, error-free, or that the content posted by other users is accurate, legal, or appropriate. You use the service at your own risk.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, BookLane and its operators are not responsible for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including lost data, lost profits, or interruption of access.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, post a notice on the site. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
